Why I Built Badonka Fuel (And Why It’s Free)

A few years ago, I was tracking my nutrition every single day using an app I trusted completely. It wasn’t flashy. It didn’t need to be. It just worked, and looking back, it was probably the single biggest reason I stayed consistent with my health during that stretch.

Then, with no warning, it shut down. Gone.

I didn’t just lose an app. I lost the tool that had been keeping me honest for months. And within a week or two of not logging anything, I noticed the difference not in some dramatic way, just in the small, quiet way that progress stalls when you stop paying attention to it.

That’s when I started paying attention to how many other people were in the exact same boat: not less committed to their goals, just suddenly without the tool that made those goals trackable. So I decided to build the thing I actually needed and make it available to anyone else who needed it too.

That’s Badonka Fuel.

What Nutrition Tracking Actually Does

Tracking your food isn’t about obsessing over every gram or turning eating into a math problem. It’s about closing the gap between what you think you’re eating and what you’re actually eating because that gap is where most progress quietly disappears.

Every log entry is a small act of honesty with yourself. On its own, one entry doesn’t mean much. Strung together over weeks, they turn into something real: a goal you actually hit, a habit that finally sticks, a clearer picture of what’s working and what isn’t.

The hard part was never understanding that tracking helps. The hard part is keeping it up especially when the tool you’re using gets in your way, or worse, disappears entirely.

What Badonka Fuel Does

Badonka Fuel is a free nutrition and fitness tracker built to make that daily honesty as easy as possible to maintain:

  • Personalized targets calculated from your own stats using a proven formula (Mifflin-St Jeor) and not a generic one-size-fits-all number.
  • Fast food logging, with a shared, growing food library, custom food creation, and food groups for your go-to shakes and meals.
  • Barcode scanning that pulls nutrition facts automatically, so you’re not typing in every number by hand.
  • Workout tracking that estimates your calorie burn automatically, with the option to override it using your own Garmin, Apple Watch, or Fitbit data.
  • Weekly summaries that show your averages, not just your best or worst day because consistency is usually more encouraging than any single day looks in isolation.
  • Smart, optional nudges with a protein reminder if you’re behind pace, a daily affirmation, and a single gentle check-in if you’ve gone quiet. No guilt trips, no spam, and every notification is something you can turn off.

Why It’s Free

The app that helped me get consistent didn’t cost me anything close to what it was worth to my health. I don’t think the tool that helps someone else get there should come with a subscription, a paywall, or a “premium tier” hiding the features that actually matter.

So Badonka Fuel is free. All of it. No catch.

Try It

If tracking your nutrition has ever been the difference between drifting and actually making progress, or if the app you used to rely on isn’t around anymore either, Badonka Fuel is ready when you are.
